For more than three decades, composer/guitarist/singer/activist JIM SCOTT has made it his business to create and perform music that celebrates peace, justice and the earth. His songs, poetry and short stories address our common concerns with insight and gentle wit.
James Durst
For all his varied professional background—including tenure with the Paul Winter Consort—it is Jim’s lyrical songs that remain his most memorable offering. He transforms his audience into an intimate gathering with a guitar skill and disarming presence that inspires and uplifts.
Quietly traversing the planet as a touring artist since 1965, JAMES DURST has performed for rapt audiences of every age in all 50 states and more than 200 cities in 45 countries, and most recently, numerous times in India and Israel. (more…)

Plenty! is hosting a fundraiser and hunger awareness event on Saturday evening, March 15 from 6-9pm. We want to encourage participation of food pantries and agencies in Floyd County to talk about improving our efforts to feed all our residents.
The evening is meant to engage folks in conversation and education so we will all leave with a sense of energy about getting healthy food to everyone in our county. In the promotion of the event we are asking people to try a “food stamp challenge” of eating on a food stamp budget for one week and incorporating as many healthy items as possible. Those who sign up for the challenge will be invited to write and talk about their experience. We also hope to have some people who are regularly using food stamps to supplement their budget for food as part of our panel. (more…)

You could help get a kid to New Orleans simply by eating the great cuisine at Floyd’s 5th Ball—Blue Mountain School’s signature fundraiser. Former House of Blues Lead Saucier Jason Loftus is leading the Blue Mountain High School Culinary Arts class in preparing all the food for this year’s event, and all catering proceeds are going towards a trip to New Orleans for the students!
And the gourmet delights don’t end there, event sponsors Parkway Brewing Company, Villa Appalaccia and Buffalo Mountain Kombucha are on board to provide the drinks.
Of course it’s not all about gourmandizing. Crazy costumes, great live music, a comprehensive auction, and awesome prizes all combine to make this the funnest fundraiser this side of the Bayou. Meanwhile, the Kiddy Gras pajama party—held on the same site—allows the whole family to have fun at this 18+ event. (more…)
