Native American Meeting at the Warren G. Lineberry Park

On Saturday, August 10th beginning at 2:00 pm, all are invited to attend a Native American Meeting at the Warren G. Lineberry Park, behind Winter Sun.

The group is an indigenous American Indian spiritual organization who follows the ancient traditions, stories, ceremonies, history, customs and spirituality of our ancestors. The information taught to those interested does not come from books, the internet or other published records. Instead it comes from the ancient written records of the priests. (more…)

The Floyd County Historical Society presents Civil War Living History Day at the Phlegar House. Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 10am to 4pm. Free admission.

  • Civil War camp life exhibits & opportunity to research your local Civil War ancestors throughout the day
  • Soldier and home-front presentations beginning at 10:30am
  • Chris J. Hartley, author of “Soneman’s Raid, 1965” at 1pm

Floyd is many things to many people, and to most people one of those things is fun. There has seldom been a resident of Floyd who knew how to have as good a time as Tom Ryan did. Floyd’s first Mardi Gras King was also a visionary with a generous community spirit, who helped put Floyd’s Mardi Gras on the map and supported Blue Mountain School in many other ways besides.

In this year’s Blue Mountain School fundraiser we pay tribute to this mountain of a human spirit in the way he would want us to: we’re going to have a great big party! (more…)

18th Annual Winterfest at The Jacksonville Center for the Arts

The next Winterfest will be held at The Jacksonville Center for the Arts on Friday, Nov 30 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Floyd’s Jacksonville Center for the Arts.

Winterfest is The Jax’s largest and longest running annual special event. The old dairy barn will feature local artists, artisans, and musicians throughout the building. This is a great opportunity to start holiday shopping while supporting local artists and artisans. For all the young artists, free children’s holiday activities are also offered. After all the shopping, musical entertainment, and children’s activities be sure to stop in for a tasty treat at the Jax Café on the first floor

Kai’s LungFest – A Music Benefit for COTA (Children’s Organ Transplant Association)

Kai’s LungFest, a benefit for COTA (Children’s Organ Transplant Association) will open at the Sun Music Hall in Floyd. This benefit event will include music by The Mumbles, Spoon Fight, and Tobacco Apache.

Kai’s LungFest benefits COTA in honor of Sekai Talley-LaRoche. Sekai lives with Cystic Fibrosis, which is gradually robbing him of the use of his lungs and liver. Kai’s LungFest, a benefit for COTA, promotes a campaign by “Kai’s Krew” to make this young man’s life-saving transplants a reality (more…)
