Our mission:
To create a community free of domestic and sexual violence.

Our guiding principles:
Safety, Dignity and Respect, Empowerment, Free Services and Community Collaboration

Our organization:
For more than 29 years, we’ve been providing hope and help to those who need it in the New River Valley. We are a non-profit, human service agency with the purpose of providing programs and services to adult and child victims of domestic and sexual violence. Our center, the oldest in Virginia, has been and will continue to be the cornerstone of courage and inspiration for thousands of people in our community.
While the overwhelming majority of victims of domestic and sexual violence are women and their abusers are likely men, men can also be victims of domestic and sexual violence. Domestic and sexual violence also occurs in lesbian and gay relationships.

The Women’s Resource Center is committed to serving all victims of domestic and sexual violence, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion, disability, or veteran status.

Counties/areas served:
• Floyd
• Giles
• Pulaski
• Montgomery
• City of Radford

In addition, we serve the campuses of:
• Virginia Tech
• Radford University
• New River Community College

On-going services include:
• 24-hour hotline
• Counseling
• Shelter
• Transitional Housing
• Rape companion services
• Support groups
• Court Advocacy
• Criminal justice support
• Emergency financial assistance
• Community education

There are no fees for our services. (Transitional housing residents pay a modest program fee in lieu of rent or utilities payments.) We work with existing community services and resources to maximize our effectiveness. We work with local Departments of Social Services, New River Valley Community Services, Health Departments, the criminal justice system, Community Action programs, schools and many other allied professionals in cooperative relationships.
Our volunteers and staff of full and part-time employees are dedicated to implementing change toward a violence-free society by offering help, hope and empowerment to victims of domestic and sexual violence in our community.
